A Shock Diagnosis
At 54, Chyka Keebaugh never imagined that she would need hip replacement surgery. For years, she had battled back pain, plantar fasciitis, and various leg issues, never suspecting that her hips would be the culprit. After a visit to the doctor for a routine infusion, she was shocked to learn that her back pain stemmed from hip dysplasia, a condition she had since birth, and was now in need of urgent surgery.

"I feel like the bionic woman now—I'm back to doing what I love without missing a beat, thanks to the support I got during my recovery."
In the weeks leading up to her surgery, Chyka prepared herself mentally, taking the time to consult with the best surgeon and get her body as fit as possible. Despite her shock, she knew this was the only way to move forward and that recovery was key. But what she hadn’t anticipated was the physical and emotional toll it would take on her, especially as someone used to a busy and fast-paced lifestyle. Six weeks of rest and recovery seemed daunting, but Chyka faced it with resilience.
Her recovery journey wasn't without challenges, but Chyka found a new sense of empowerment through consistent self-care. She turned her focus to helping her body heal in the most effective way, and the key to her recovery was icing. "Icing was absolutely key," she says. With the right tools, such as the RE3 Hip Ice Compression System, Chyka was able to maintain the necessary consistency of ice application while going about her daily activities, something she couldn’t have done with traditional ice packs.
"It was a game changer. I could stand, walk, sit, and lie down—all while the ice was doing its job.”
Chyka’s journey with RE3 became a turning point in her recovery. The convenience of the RE3 system allowed her to ice consistently without worrying about wet clothes or repositioning ice packs constantly. It helped her stay mobile, engage in rehab exercises, and focus on her physical recovery without missing a beat.
Looking back, Chyka wishes she had known sooner that her back pain was actually caused by her hip, and that a solution like surgery was possible. But, with the wisdom of hindsight, she can now focus on her long-term health and mobility. "I feel like the bionic woman," she says, and now, at 55, she’s more motivated than ever to stay on top of her physical health.
