What does one size fits all mean?
We’ve never met a body we can’t fit. All of our products have been designed to fit everybody. The “cold source” (ice core blanket) can be positioned on the affected area and then fastened tightly by the fully adjustable compression brace (with low profile, high quality velcro).
Ankle/Wrist/Elbow Ice Core Blanket 20cm x 15cm and Compression Brace 70cm circumference
Knee/Leg/Arm Ice Core Blanket 26cm x 26cm and Compression Brace 1m circumference.
Shoulder/Hip/Glute Ice Core Blanket 25cm x 20cm and Compression Brace 80cm (plus 1m adjustable strap)
Chest/Back Ice Core Blanket 25cm x 16cm and Compression Brace 1.2m circumference
How long does the Ice Core Blanket take to freeze?
We suggest putting the ice core blanket into the freezer as soon as you receive it and keeping it in overnight before the first use. We recommend keeping the ice core blankets flat in the freezer when not being used so you always have them charged and ready to go.
How long does the ice core blanket stay cold for once removed from the freezer?
The ice core blanket can stay icy cold for several hours when it is inserted in the brace and then folded into the travel case.
The Ice blanket is insulated and protected from external conditions. This enables the packs to be taken to the game, to work or a training session and still be cold and ready to deliver a clinically effective treatment hours later. It is important to note that there are a variety of variables that need to be considered eg room temperature conditions, indoor or outdoor. For best results keep the pack in a cool, room temperature environment. Avoid leaving it in the direct sun or in extreme heat conditions.
How long can I keep the brace on for?
Everyone is different, just as different areas of the body respond at individual times to icing. As a general rule we recommend checking the iced area every 5 minutes once the compression brace is first applied. If your aim is to reduce the tissue temperature at an injury site, then the depth of that injury will need to be considered in the length of time the ice is applied. NOTE: Remove the compression pack immediately if the injury appears bright pink or red (a significant change in colour from before attached the brace, indicating ice burn).
Do all of the Ice Compression Packs come with 2 Blankets?
Yes! All of our Ice Compression Packs now come with 2 Ice Core Blankets. We have listened to our customers who overwhelmingly confirmed that having a second Ice Core Blanket is preferable. This allows our customers to always have one on standby and therefore have maximum benefit of using our products at all times. Whether you are a surgical patient wanting to ice continually for pain relief or a weekend warrior wanting to ice at home or at the office, our system of ice compression gives full flexibility to get you back on your feet.
Should I use ice to treat my acute injury?
Yes. Ice application reduces the body’s tissue temperature. When the tissue temperature is kept at around 10 degrees celsius, there is an immediate reduction of oxygen flow, inflammation, muscle spasm and pain. By applying ice within the first 48 hours of an injury can help to minimise the swelling and therefore assist with controlling the associated pain.
How does ice reduce pain and swelling?
When you apply ice to a particular area of the body, it constricts blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the affected tissues, significantly reducing the rate of inflammation and swelling. This vasoconstriction also numbs the area, acting as a local anesthetic, and slows down the transmission of pain signals to the brain, providing immediate relief from discomfort.
Can I ice my chronic injury?
The use of ice in treating chronic injuries can be beneficial, but it's not as straightforward as its application for acute injuries. For chronic conditions, the primary goal isn't always to reduce inflammation — it's often more about managing pain and improving function.
while ice can play a role in the management of chronic injuries, its use should be based on individual circumstances and preferably under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Should I ice my injury, before activity?
Using ice before physical activity when dealing with an injury is generally not recommended, primarily because icing restricts blood flow, reduce muscle temperature, and numbs the affected area, leading to an increased risk of injury due to a lack of sensation.
There are some situations where ice might be used before activity, but this is under specific guidance from a healthcare professional. For instance, an athlete dealing with chronic overuse injuries might use ice before competing to numb an area just enough to get through the event with less pain. This is not about treating the injury, but managing symptoms for a short period and is typically part of a larger treatment protocol.
Is this product safe to use post surgery?
Yes, absolutely our products are safe to use post surgery. We are supplying a growing number of Orthopaedic Surgeons who supply the packs to their patients directly following certain procedures. We are receiving excellent feedback from doctors and patients alike.
When is icing not recommended?
Active deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis
Areas near a chronic wound
Cold hypersensitivity eg Raynaud’s, cryoglobulinema, hemoglobulinemia
Cold urticaria (cold allergy or hypersensitivity)
Over regenerating nerves
Tissues affected by tuberculosis
Untreated haemorrhagic disorders
Areas with impaired circulation
Any areas of skin that are in poor condition or in the presence of infection
What is the difference between a chronic and acute injury?
Acute injuries happen suddenly and are usually associated with some sort of trauma, such as twisting an ankle, spraining a wrist, or falling in a way that injures your back. They are immediate injuries that arise abruptly during activity.
Chronic injuries, also known as overuse injuries, develop slowly and are persistent. They are the result of prolonged, repetitive motion, particularly in sports or continuous strain over an extended period.
